What is Entertaiment?

Entertaiment is an industry that includes motion pictures, television, books, music, live entertainment, and branded entertainment. The word derives from the Medieval Latin intertenere, which means to hold inside. It is also related to the Indo-European root ten, which means to stretch or expand. Many types of entertainment involve social backstabbing, murders and other themes that the brain was evolved to react deeply to in order to function in a social world. Entertainment evolves and can be adapted to any scale, from a private experience for two; to a banquet arranged for twenty-two; to performances intended for thousands of people. This evolution is in part why the idea of entertainment has become so associated with amusement and frivolity.
