Entertaiment

Entertaiment

Something that provides pleasure, diversion or amusement: playing games; solving the daily crossword; visiting a museum; attending a concert.

Play is central to children’s entertainment and is essential to their development. It teaches them about social interaction (through pretending); helps prepare them for adult responsibilities and activities such as child rearing or working in the workforce (by mimicking them through toys like dolls and pets); develops motor skills needed for sports, music and gaming; and is often inspired by familiar forms of entertainment like stories. The story of Scheherazade, for example, has been retold by composers including Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel; in films by Pasolini; and in innovative video games.
