Entertaiment

Entertaiment is anything that entertains. It can take a number of forms, from individual private entertainment choices that are available on demand from a vast array of pre-recorded products; through banquets adapted for two, or parties for ten or more; to performances intended for an audience ranging into the thousands; to spectacles aimed at a global audience. Although the word is commonly associated with amusement, many entertainments may have a serious purpose, whether in the form of ceremony, religious festival or satire. The word ‘entertainment’ derives from the Middle English entente, via the Medieval Latin intertenere. The Indo-European root is ten, meaning “to stretch.”
